Stem cell therapies have been developed primarily focusing on safety validation, and limitations such as the lack of clear mechanisms and insufficient cost-effectiveness have been pointed out. There are various strategies to enhance their functions. Our laboratory has been conducting research to advance various strategies, including 1) activation through preconditioning of cells, 2) generation of cell clusters, 3) gene transduction and utilization of exosomes, and 4) conjugation of drug carriers to the cell surface. The applicable indications for these therapies include inflammatory bowel disease, atopic dermatitis, xerostomia, and pulmonary fibrosis.

지금까지의 줄기세포 치료제는 안전성 검증을 중심으로 개발되어 왔으며 명확한 기전의 부재와 비용대비 부족한 효력이 문제점으로 지적되어 왔음. 다양한 기능 고도화 전략이 있으며 본 연구실은 1) 세포 전처치 활성화, 2) 세포 클러스터 제작, 3) 유전자 도입 및 엑소좀 활용, 4) 약물전달체의 세포 표면 부착 등의 다양한 전략을 고도화시키는 연구를 수행해 왔음. 해당 치료제의 적응증으로는 염증성 장질환, 아토피 피부염, 구강건조증, 폐섬유화증 등이 있음.
